you're at: how is terracotta made?

In an age of advanced technology, witnessing the transformation of what looked like normal soil into a hand crafted terracotta tile demonstrates the skill of the staff at one of our Spanish suppliers. We at tile culture have had the privilege of witnessing these skills first hand in a visit to the factory. Below we have tried to outline for you, the main stages involved in producing a tile whos character will live on for centuries.

Stage 1
The finest "earth" is selected.
Stage 2
"Earth" mixed with mineral water to form clay.
Stage 3
Clay shaped into moulds by Master Craftsmen.
Stage 4
Tiles left to air before kiln.
Stage 5
Tiles kilned at 1200°C ready for export to you.
